The European Union has adopted three new measures reinforcing and extending the scope of the EU sanctions against Iran - brief references and links to the source documents are set out below :

  1. Council Decision 2012/168/CFSP:  amends Council Decision 2011/235/CFSP of 12 April 2011. It extends the application of Decision 2011/235 until 13 April 2013, and in addition prohibits the export of telecommunications monitoring equipment for use by the Iranian regime and adds 17 people to the EU’s travel ban and asset freeze list.

  2. Council Regulation 264/2012: amends Council Regulation 359/2011 and gives effect to Council Decision 2012/168/CFSP.

  3. Council Regulation 267/2012 :  repeals and replaces Council Regulation 961/2010 and gives effect to Council Decision 2012/35/CFSP of 23 January 2012 which provided for further sanction measures on Iran.  Regulation 267/2012 adds to the existing measures inter alia the prohibition of importing  into the EU, and purchasing or transporting to any country by entities or persons subject to the Regulation crude oil, petroleum and petrochemical products originating from or located in Iran.
