The EU has adopted measures to implement UNSCR 1970(2011).
This is done through Decision 2011/137/CFSP and Council Regulation 204/2011.
In brief these measures provide for:
- an arms embargo,
- a ban on sales of internal repression equipment,
- restrictions on the admission to the EU of and the freezing of funds and economic resources of certain persons involved in serious human rights abuses against persons in Libya.
The list of persons covered by the EU sanctions covers the UNSCR list as well as a number of additional persons and entities.
Implementation and enforcement of the sanctions remains a matter for each Member State.
